Where to stay in Turin ? The best neighborhoods

Are you planning a trip to discover the capital of Piedmont and wondering where to stay in Turin ? To fully enjoy the city’s historic heritage and refined gastronomy, choosing the right neighborhood is essential. The main attractions are concentrated in the center, but public transport makes it easy to stay a little farther away to find better accommodation prices.

After our trip and extensive research to find the best accommodation, I wrote this guide with the advantages and disadvantages of each area to help you make the best choice for where to stay in Turin. I’ve also included my favorite addresses for every budget to help you avoid unpleasant surprises. And to discover all the things to do during your trip, follow the tips in my guide what to do in Turin.

Where to stay in Turin : neighborhood map

I’ve marked on the map below the best areas where I recommend staying in Turin. The main attractions are concentrated in the city center where everything can be done on foot. However, this is also where the ZTL is located. It can be more convenient and cheaper to stay outside this area if you’re arriving by car.

As in all major cities, if you’re looking for cheap accommodation in Turin you’ll need to stay outside the historic center or consider hostels. These don’t just offer bunk beds in dormitories but also private double rooms.

Historic Center: the best area

Where to stay in Turin's historic center
The Royal Palace in the Historic Centre

The Centro Storico is the beating heart of the city and where most of the major tourist attractions are located. It stretches around Piazza Castello. For me, it’s the best area to stay in Turin. Everything is easily accessible on foot, and it’s home to many shops, historic cafés, and restaurants. If this is your first visit to Turin or if you’re only staying one day, I recommend choosing the historic center.

Advantages :

  • Close to tourist attractions : you’ll be just a few steps from Piazza Castello, the Royal Palace, and the Mole Antonelliana.
  • Easy to get around : museums, palaces, and nightlife spots are all within walking distance without needing a car or public transport.
  • Lively nightlife : many restaurants, historic cafés, and bars create a vibrant atmosphere in the evening.

Disadvantages :

  • Higher prices : accommodation and restaurants can be more expensive due to the tourist influx.
  • Limited traffic zone : the entire center is classified as a ZTL and private or public parking is expensive.

Recommended accommodations :

  • 81 € : L’angolo infinito, one of the cheapest options for staying in Turin in the historic center while still receiving good reviews. The 35 m² apartment is very well located and has everything needed for a weekend stay.
  • 84 € : Casa di Oscar, this 55 m² apartment with a fully equipped kitchen is located on Via Po, 500 meters from the Mole Antonelliana. The host provides a welcome basket with a few treats.
  • 107 € : XX SETTEMBRE Urban Relais, beautiful rooms with minimalist decor for 1 to 4 people with views of the city or a courtyard. Reception is open 24 hours a day (convenient for late arrivals or early departures).
  • 158 € : La Casa del Cuore, a lovely place to treat yourself and stay in Turin in a warm environment. Double or triple rooms, some with a terrace, and breakfast included.

Crocetta : the chic neighborhood to stay in Turin

Where to Stay in Turin in the Crocetta District
Crocetta district

With its wide streets and long boulevards lined with buildings in Liberty or Neo-Gothic architecture, Crocetta is one of Turin’s most elegant neighborhoods. It’s a refined residential area with few cultural attractions apart from the Museum of Modern Art. It’s a great area for those traveling with family and looking for a quiet atmosphere.

The Crocetta district is located south of the historic center, about a 35-minute walk from the Egyptian Museum. However, it’s well served by tram lines and the yellow metro line. Porta Nuova train station is also relatively close, which is ideal if you’re arriving by train.

Advantages :

  • Peaceful and safe: ideal for travelers looking for a calm atmosphere.
  • Elegant architecture : Liberty-style buildings create a pleasant setting for walks.
  • Upscale shops : luxury boutiques and well-known local markets are located here.

Disadvantages :

  • Less central : you’ll need public transport to reach the heart of the city.
  • Fewer entertainment options : there are fewer restaurants and bars compared to other neighborhoods.

Recommended accommodations :

  • 91 € : Liberty Hotel, this 3-star hotel with 1980s-style decor offers double rooms and family rooms at a relatively affordable price for the area. Staff speak French and breakfast costs extra. The train station is a 10-minute walk away.
  • 113 € : Casa vela, a lovely duplex apartment with two bedrooms that can accommodate 2 to 5 people and is fully equipped (washing machine and kitchen). Metro station 250 meters away and Porta Susa station a 5-minute walk. A great address for staying in Turin in the Crocetta district.
  • 145 € : Gianduja B&B, this guesthouse offers double rooms and suites with views of the city or mountains. There’s even a balcony where you can enjoy breakfast while admiring the view. Well located near the tramway.

Quadrilatero Romano : the antique district

Where to Stay in Turin in the Quadrilatero Romano District
Quadrilatero Romano district

The Quadrilatero district is the oldest in Turin and corresponds to the perimeter of the former Roman city. It has a few Roman remains (nothing comparable to Rome), several must-see buildings, and one of the oldest cafés in the city (open since 1763) where the bicerin, Turin’s iconic drink, was invented.

It’s a neighborhood close to everything (the historic center is just a few minutes away on foot) and has lively nightlife with many bars, cafés, and restaurants. This is the district we chose for our stay in Turin, in this apartment on the edge of the ZTL with a public parking lot right next to it (we came by car).

Advantages :

  • Historic heritage : Roman ruins and picturesque streets provide a glimpse into the past.
  • Active nightlife : many wine bars, restaurants, and trendy cafés.
  • Close to Porta Palazzo Market : the largest open-air market in Europe.

Disadvantages :

  • Noise: the nightlife can be noisy in some streets (check reviews).
  • Limited traffic zone: the Quadrilatero Romano is classified as a ZTL, but there are public parking lots just above the district.

Suggested accommodations :

  • 68 € : Turin Central Rooms, ideal for budget travelers looking for where to stay in Turin. Located near a metro stop, convenient for reaching the train station. Rooms with private bathrooms are modern and have balconies. Excellent value for money.
  • 78 € : QUADRATO, a beautiful 46 m² apartment, modern, well decorated, and fully equipped for spending a few days in the city. Very well located and private parking may be included (but expensive at €30 per day).
  • 184 € : B&B Via Stampatori, this bed and breakfast offers beautiful rooms in a magnificent building with a terrace where you can have breakfast. There is also an apartment available for 2 to 5 people.

San Salvario : where to stay in Turin for nightlife

San Salvario Turin
San Salvario

This district located south of the historic center is bordered by Parco del Valentino and the Po River to the east and Porta Nuova station to the west. It’s a lively student neighborhood with many bars, clubs, and restaurants. If you’re wondering where to stay in Turin for nightlife, this is the place to come. However, I wouldn’t recommend this area for families looking for a quiet stay.

San Salvario is quite well located : the historic center is about a 20-minute walk away and Porta Nuova station is right next door. It’s well served by public transport with the yellow metro line (2 stops) and many trams heading toward the center. Parco del Valentino (closed during our trip) offers plenty of green spaces.

Advantages :

  • Young and trendy atmosphere : with many bars, restaurants, and clubs, it’s the ideal place for night owls.
  • Close to Parco del Valentino : a green space perfect for relaxing or exercising.
  • Accessibility : Porta Nuova station is nearby, making it easy to travel to other cities.

Disadvantages :

  • Night noise : the nightlife can cause noise disturbances, especially on weekends.
  • Safety : some areas may feel less safe at night, particularly those closest to the train station.

Recommended accommodations :

  • 61 € : Valentino park suite, this 35 m² apartment is the cheapest option for staying in Turin in the San Salvario district while still receiving good reviews from travelers. A metro station 450 meters away connects you to the center.
  • 85 € : Hotel Urbani, this 3-star hotel offering rooms in various categories with breakfast included is located 250 meters from the train station and metro. City center 10 minutes on foot.
  • 104 € : CX Turin Marconi, rooms for 1 to 4 people with pleasant decor in this well-located 3-star hotel. Amenities include a bar, fitness center, rooftop, breakfast included, and private parking (€20 per day).

Lingotto: The Former Industrial District

Lingotto Turin
Lingotto

This area, quite far from the city center, is still well connected by the metro line and numerous tramways. It’s a former industrial district that has been revitalized and now hosts shopping centers and cultural venues. This is where you’ll find the Automobile Museum and the Giovanni and Marella Agnelli Art Gallery. The Lingotto district offers lower prices than other areas for accommodation in Turin.

Advantages :

  • Shopping centers : ideal for shopping with the Lingotto shopping mall.
  • Cultural venues : home to the Automobile Museum and the Agnelli Art Gallery.
  • Accessibility : well served by the metro, making it easy to reach the city center.

Disadvantages :

  • Less historic charm : the atmosphere is more modern and may lack authenticity.
  • Distance : located on the outskirts, trips to the center can take longer.

My addresses in Lingotto :

  • 61 € : HOUSE Lingotto, this apartment is the cheapest accommodation for staying in Turin in the Lingotto district while still receiving excellent reviews. It can accommodate up to 4 people in its 65 m² attic space. Free street parking.
  • 104 € : Casa Spezia – Metro Vicina, accommodation for 1 to 4 people, fully equipped including Netflix, for a pleasant stay in the Piedmont capital. Reviews are excellent. Metro 150 meters away.
  • 121 € : La locanda dell’artista, large 120 m² apartment with terrace for 8 people. Ideal for very large families or groups of friends traveling together. The nearest metro station is 250 meters away.

How to find accommodation in Turin with free parking

When we organized this stay in the Piedmont capital, we arrived by car from the French Riviera. Our first intention was to find accommodation in the center with free parking for our vehicle. That would allow us to stay in a convenient location while avoiding the issue of the ZTL. After spending hours going through all the addresses in the city center, we came to the conclusion that it doesn’t exist (if you happen to find one, I’d love the address in the blog comments). There are very few parkings in the center and the few accommodations that have them charge extra. Prices can go up to €30 per day.

The only solution to benefit from free parking is to stay in a neighborhood outside the main tourist center. If you choose this option, make sure your apartment, hotel, or bed and breakfast is close to a metro or tram line so you can quickly reach the center.

My tips for choosing accommodation in Turin

Turin has quite diverse neighborhoods, each with its own character and specific features. Depending on your preferences and budget, you’ll find the ideal place to stay and fully enjoy this beautiful Italian city. Here are the key points to remember :

  • Define your priorities : do you want to be close to the main attractions, enjoy the nightlife and party scene, or stay in a quiet and elegant neighborhood?
  • Consider your budget : unfortunately, it’s not always possible to stay in the best neighborhoods. Some areas offer more affordable accommodation prices than others.
  • Transport : check the proximity of metro, tram, or bus stations to make getting around easier. There’s nothing worse than having to walk half an hour every time you want to return to your accommodation.
  • Read reviews : before making your reservation, read other travelers’ reviews carefully (especially on Booking where they are verified). Pay attention to comments about the hotel or apartment but also about the neighborhood (for example, whether it feels safe at night).
  • Book early : to take advantage of promotions and the best prices, you need to make your reservations in advance (or at the last minute on the same day if you’re very flexible).

You now know a little more about choosing accommodation and where to stay in Turin based on your criteria. If you have questions or places to recommend, feel free to leave a message in the blog comments.
